Established in 1997, Shenzhen Children's Hospital is a comprehensive children's hospital offering medical, health care, scientific research, teaching and rehabilitation services, located in the downtown area of Shenzhen. It is also the only 3A pediatric hospital in Guangdong Province.
Shenzhen Children's Hospital covers an area of 43,000㎡ with 1,331 authorized beds and 49 clinical and medical departments. The hospital possesses a comprehensive set of medical disciplines, which covers all departments required for a top general children's hospital. In 2023, the hospital received over 2.4 million patients in outpatients and emergency services, while the number of discharged patients reached over 88,000.
In 2022 National Tertiary Public Hospital Assessment, Shenzhen Children's Hospital is ranked No.9 among the pediatric hospitals in China, and is selected to be in the list of the high-level hospitals in Guangdong province. Shenzhen Children's Hospital is the branch of the National Clinical Research Center for Respiratory Disease, the pediatrics of the hospital is rated as the High-level Clinical Specialty in Guangdong province. The pediatrics of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) of the hospital is the 13th Five-Year Plan Key TCM Specialty in Guangdong. The hospital is the Key Developmental Organization of pediatrics of TCM in Guangdong province, and is the Key Developmental Organization of TCM specialty in Shenzhen. The hospital possesses pediatric hematologic oncology, the pediatric respiratory, the pediatric neurology, the pediatric surgery and other Key Municipal Specialties. On the Annual Technological Influence Billboard of Hematology Departments in Chinese Hospitals, published by the Institute of Medical Information of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS), the specialty of hematologic oncology is ranked among top 100, top 3 among all children's hospitals in China, and No. 1 in Guangdong province for consecutively 5 years. On the Chinese Hospital Billboard published by the Hospital Management Institute of Fudan University, the specialty of pediatric internal medicine is ranked No. 3 in southern China while the specialty of pediatric surgery is ranked No.2.
Shenzhen Children's Hospital has successively built up the projects of the Shenzhen Key Laboratory for the Diagnosis of Children's Critical illnesses, the Shenzhen Technical Engineering Center of Pathogens High-throughput Gene Sequencing, the Public Service Platform of the Drug Clinical Trials Base, the Public Service Platform for the Research and Development of the Humanized Mouse Model of Immune System, and the Shenzhen Medical Public Service Platform of the Pediatric Hematologic Oncology Molecular, etc. The hospital has attracted 11 prominent medical teams, two of which are from abroad. Meanwhile, Shenzhen Children's Hospital has been qualified to conduct drug clinical trials by the national institute of the Good Clinical Practice (GCP), including 8 professional teams: pediatric neurology, pediatric haematology, pediatric respiratory, pediatric endocrinology, pediatric otolaryngology and pediatric dermatology., etc.
In recent years, research teams within Shenzhen Children's Hospital have been developing more than 150 major scientific and technological research projects in different areas, including National High-tech R&D Program of China (863 Program); key programs, general programs, and youth programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC); key programs of the Public Welfare Scientific Research Project of China; programs of the Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province; key programs of the Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Commission; and have secured for research funds of more than CNY 1 billion. In recent five years, over 680 research papers (indexed by SCI) have been published, almost 60 of which have an impact factor of higher than 10. The medical teams have led or participated in the drafting of more than 30 international and domestic clinical practice guidelines. The hospital has hosted the 10th Congress of the World Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases (WSPID). The China's Action Plan of Rational Use of Antimicrobial Agents on Children (2017-2020), which was written by the team of the hospital, has been published.
Shenzhen Children's Hospital is the pediatric clinical hospital of China Medical University and Shantou University; is the primary teaching hospital ofSouthern University of Science and Technology, and ChongQing Medical University; is the postgraduate students training base of Zunyi Medical University and Jinzhou Medical University. The hospital is also a nationally certified training base for resident physicians in specialties of pediatrics, pediatric surgery, a post-doctoral innovation and practice base of Shenzhen municipality. It has also set up the Shenzhen Children's Medical Simulation Center to provide training for a large number of pediatric innovation talents with excellence.
Shenzhen Children's Hospital also values capacity building of its talents. It has attracted and trained leaders and talents with high academic influence in various disciplines, including type B and type C high-level overseas talents, type I and II practical talents, and also foreign academicians. Till December 2023, there are 2,602 employees in the hospital, 23 of which are doctoral supervisors, 121 are supervisors of master postgraduates, 147 are doctoral degree holders, 690 are master degree holders, and 445 are entitled to advanced professionals. Team members of the hospital are appointed to various nationwide academic associations, with 35 directors, 20 team leaders, 38 standing and 242 committee members; besides, 82 have been appointed to the committee of Chinese Medical Association, Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, Chinese Stomatological Association, and China Association of Chinese Medicine.
